As most of you know, I’ve been making all-natural skin care products for some time now. I thought I would take this opportunity to let you in on few secrets behind Bee Queen Naturals.

Over the next three-part series of blog posts, I will share with you the benefits of the ingredients we choose in the formulation of our natural skin care line. In this first post, I will start with the most frequently asked question.

*Why do you use Manuka Honey in your skin care products?

The health benefits of Manuka honey have been touted for years. It has been used in the treatment of skin infections, stomach ulcers and Gastric Reflux disease(GERD) due to its ability to inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria. Manuka honey is obtained by bee pollination of the Manuka tree (Leptospermum scoparium) found primarily in New Zealand.

All pure( not heated or pasteurized) honey contains an enzyme Glucose oxidase, a precursor to Hydrogen Peroxide. In addition, Manuka honey contains the enzyme Methyglyoxal, which is powerful germicidal agent, up to 200 times that of other honey. This enzyme is specific to honey produced by the pollination of this very special tree. The Manuka tree is a cousin to the Melaleuca tree, of which we obtain tea tree oil, another natural powerful antibacterial.

Not only is Manuka Honey a natural antibacterial agent but it has many other external benefits such as:

* Powerful antioxidant providing protection against harmful UV rays.
*Used in the treatment of acne and blemishes due to it’s antibacterial
effects
*Used in the treatment of eczema and psoriasis due to anti-
inflammatory effects
*Natural moisturizer-penetrates skin tissue with drying
*Has been used topically to treat wounds and prevent scarring
*High antimicrobial effect

Long story short, Manuka honey is the King of all honeys when it comes to killing germs and softening your skin.

So, why not combine all that natural antibacterial effect into a lovely skin care lotion that not only smells great (scented with essential oils) but is paraben and preservative free.
