What in the World is Figgy Pudding?

We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year

REFRAIN
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin,
We wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Now bring us some figgy pudding
Now bring us some figgy pudding
Now bring us some figgy pudding
And bring some out here

Have you ever wondered what in the world is Figgy Pudding? Well, I have, and decided to do a bit of investigation on this delightful looking concoction. Well, it turns out that Figgy pudding is actually made of figs. Figs, spices, flour, fruit and often a boatload full of alcohol. The custard like cake is usually cooked or steamed in a bowl or water bath. Figgy pudding has been around since the 1600’s but most commonly known from the song,”We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” which itself has it origins in England mid fifteenth century. So, if you are so inclined, I have provided a link to a non-alcoholic version of figgy pudding.
